Ruling a World…

Ultima Online
Wouldn’t it be totally cool to be able to rule your own world? Do you want to be your own God? Do you want to wander around invisibly, be invincible, or be able to kill other people by just batting an eyelash? Do you want to be PURE EVIL?! Well, today you can. And you can do this through a little game called Ultima Online. Now Ultima Online has been out for… like ever. Or around 10 years, take your pick (I’d personally would go with the 10 years, because, well, forever is a long time. If you guess wrong, though, don’t worry. There are no prizes involved with this crappin’ entry. I’m sorry. Don’t cry. Poor thing). Ultima Online (here referred to as UO, ‘cause I’m lazy) has a gigantic following and has had a big following for many years.

A big part of UO’s big following is the fact that there are things out there called Shards. Shards are player owned and administered servers that you can do anything you want with. So, if you want to develop your own little land that anyone can play on, go ahead and look into player run shards. A great place to start is RunUO. RunUO is a great, free to download, tool. RunUO allows you to create your very own server and from this server, you can allow people to jump on your computer and you can all have a big ol’ UO party. Why not have a kegger with a bunch of your closest online friends? Well, you can’t really have a kegger, because it’s over the internet, but at least you can all hang out and have fun and play the video games.

The best part about RunUO is that it’s completely customizable. With just a little C# know how, you can create anything you want. Want a ninja that goes around and randomly kills people for clicking on him? FINE! KILL EVERYONE. Want a pirate that goes around killing ninjas? EASY. Want a giant hippo that you can ride and dress up in a pink skirt and bunny slippers? Well, you can’t do that on UO, but it’d be cool, wouldn’t it? Even if you don’t know much about C#, RunUO’s forums have plenty of crazed loon… I mean, people who would be more than happy to help you, waiting for you to post your C# questions.

Fun times are a comin’!
