WIGI Conference

WIGI Conference

Women in Games International has put together a sweet looking conference taking place in San Francisco on February 18th. Check out what they have to say about it:

Women In Games International is pleased to announce their next regional conference in a series, “Games for Women, Games by Women.” Scheduled For Saturday, February 18 at the Fort Mason Conference Center in San Francisco, this conference addresses the myth that women don’t “do” games by discussing statistics, game genres and careers in game development. Conference will include a keynote, panels, round table discussions and a reception. Confirmed speakers include representatives from …read more

Hahah… If only it really were like this…

Hahah… If only it really were like this…

I am amused by this following video.
Somehow I doubt it’s really like this. How can a job be that fun? What probably really happens is that the boss has a stick and pokes you with it constantly as your testing the games. And then for lunch, they make you eat some sludge and then before you leave for the day, they rip 10 hairs out of your head. Exactly 10. And if you don’t have hair on your head, they rip it out of your arms.
That’s how I imagine a job testing games REALLY …read more

New Point and Click… thingy.

New Point and Click… thingy.

That’s right… there’s a new Point and Click game creator… well, it’s not really new, it’s actually part 2 of Point and Click (that’s the name of it, I’m telling you). It looks like it is pretty easy to use and has some pretty darn cool features. I downloaded a demo game that they had, but it was all in German and while I am pretty good with the English, I ain’t so good with the German. Maybe I just didn’t look long enough to find an English version, but I’m sure SOMEONE out there speaks German, …read more

Game Development Paths

Game Development Paths

In the gaming industry there are lots and lots of different paths you can take when you’re looking for a job in the Game Development field. Gone are the days when a couple of people sat around programming a game where a stick figure talks to another stick figure and maybe rides on a stick figure horse with a mohawk. Gone also are the days where the most indepth form of music that a computer could reach was a midi file, which consisted of a lot of organ like music and beeping. Not that organ like music …read more

Kick Butt Developer Chat

Kick Butt Developer Chat

I was checking out Just Adventure’s Website and found this kick butt chat. Just Adventure chatted with a whole slew of Indie Developers and I thought I was really cool to see what each developer had to say about the questions Just Adventure presented. I’d really love to see more great interview like this for the game developer. All of their questions were answered very differently. The best part was reading about what the developer’s favorite part of creating a game was. I’m just amazed at what a great interview this was. Makes me …read more

Bioware… too sexy for their contest

Bioware… too sexy for their contest

So, you’re sitting at your desk, bored with nothing to do. You’ve beaten all of your games and there’s nothing else out there that appeals to your attention span. Well, why not make your own game? “What,” you may ask, “Make my own game??” Yeah, well why not? Any one can do it, really. All you need is a good story, with appealing characters and a good plot. Well, all you need is a good story AND the proper tools. And just like Emeril, “BAM!”, you can create yourself a game.
Okay, so …read more

My Adventure is your Adventure

My Adventure is your Adventure

Okay, so if you took a look at my last entry, I talked about how BioWare is hosting a contest to end all contests, but you’re thinking “Eh, the RPG genre is too blah for me. They only talk about swords and magic and crap like that. I don’t like crap like that.” Well, thanks for offending a gigantic portion of our readers who happen to like RPG. Like me. Let me go cry now…
Alright, back and I’m better. Anyways. So, you don’t like writing RPG stories… there’s a solution for your problems. Perhaps you’re …read more

Women in Game Development

Women in Game Development

So, if you’ve been to Play-Girlz.Com, you’ll notice that it is in fact not a porn site, but instead a gaming site being written by two wonderful ladies, Erin Harvey and Ingrid Diaz. They are a little crazy, yes, but they have a lot of information out there about different games and all the news stuff that can be associated with games. You may have noticed them talking about women’s roles in gaming and how being a gamer is a primarily male dominated thing. Well, if you think playing games is a primarily male thing, think of …read more

Bang, Bang

Bang, Bang

Well, we haven’t talked too much about developing First Person Shooters, but they have a whole heck of a lot of players. Halo, Halo 2 and Counter Strike are just a few examples of the crazy FPS’ out there, but maybe you have an entirely new idea, like eradicating an alien race. Oh, wait, that’s been done before. Or many you want to kill a bunch of Nazi’s during World War II? Yeah, I know. Done and beaten to death. Well, I’m not very imaginative, but maybe you are and maybe you want to make an …read more

Music to My Ears

Music to My Ears

So, as you’re probably aware, music is a gigantic part of any game you may be developing. It helps to set the mood and the tone of your scene or an entire game and without it you probably won’t be going very far. I look through a lot of tutorials and tips about game design and development and the music ones are really few and far between, so look no further. I was browsing through Adventure Developers and found this really great tutorial: Click me! It goes through a lot of basics and what you …read more
